David De Gea has said he is focused on winning at Manchester United rather than signing a new contract at the club.

The goalkeeper, 27, has a contract until next summer with United having an option to extend the deal until 2020.

“You have to be focused on what’s important,”

“What matters is the team and all of us being focused on what we need to focus on, which is winning games, rather than contracts or any topics that can be a distraction. What matters is focusing on football.

“You don’t have time to think about things that aren’t as important as football and the points that are at stake in the games that we have to win and do well in.”

Speaking at a prematch news conference on Friday, Jose Mourinho said he is in the dark over De Gea’s future at United.

“I am not confident. I cannot find the word in English, but let’s see what happens,” Mourinho said ahead of Sunday’s visit of Everton.

De Gea moved to Manchester United in 2011 and has won the club’s Player of the Year award four times in the past five seasons.
