Uganda have confirmed that they will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in an international friendly on November 20 at the newly completed Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
The game will come three days after the Cranes host Cape Verde in a Group L Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Kampala.
“We are happy that we have managed to get a high-profile friendly against a strong team like Nigeria,”
Both Uganda and Nigeria are on the brink of qualifying for next year’s tournament in Cameroon after taking maximum six points from the last international break, where they faced Lesotho and Libya respectively.Uganda FA spokesman Ahmed Hussein said that a 30-man contingent will depart on November 18 to Nigeria.
“The foreign-based players will then connect with their respective clubs after the friendly,” he added.
It will be Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre’s first high-profile international friendly after previous exhibition games against Sao Tome e Principe, Malawi, Niger and the Central African Republic.
After struggling to guide his team to victory in a competitive fixture, Desabre finally secured his first three points as the Cranes defeated Lesotho 3-0 in Kampala before defeating the same opposition in Maseru.
Uganda, then under the stewardship of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, shocked Nigeria 1-0 in a 2015 friendly at the Ibo Akwa Stadium.
